Sharing – Business Concepts Learned From Having Kids

Week two in my Business Concepts Learned from Having Kids blog series focuses on something that drives all parents nuts at some point… sharing, or even worse, lack of sharing! Now it obviously has a slightly different meaning for the workplace but its still a valuable skill to use to make your whole organization a success. Here are some of the best ways to “Share” while at the office:

Communication

Sharing info or practicing open communication is a huge key to success! Why? You have heard the saying that “two heads are better than one,” and this is a perfect example of why communicating is imperative. It builds teamwork and trust. When your employees work together as a team, openly communicating, you will thrive in any work situation. Problems can be solved by brainstorming as a group or in pairs, client issues are less likely to happen if everyone is “in the loop” at the office. Make sure to think of new ways to accomplish this goal to fit the needs of your specific company or employees… if you have staff meetings once a week that are hard for everyone to attend, consider doing telephone conferences instead. Technology allows for numerous ways to keep all communication lines open.

Networking

This one is slightly different because it’s focus is on “sharing” outside of your organization, but it is still important in the overall business success of an individual or group. Networking is normally done within groups that have a common interest, such as a specific industry, job category or geographic location. Regardless of the type of networking group to which you may belong, these are all great opportunities to share ideas, provide and receive business leads and build relationships that will prove beneficial for years to come. Sharing is about equitable division so make sure you think of networking not just as a means to help your business, but a way you can help others as well. The more the relationships build, the more return you will get from your invested time.

File Sharing

In our ever progressing world of technology, this is an important one. At ExactHire, we use this every day! Some of us work from home or other locations during different times of the week. By utilizing a shared “cloud drive” we can all look at documents and share knowledge quickly and efficiently. This digitally stored information can be accessed regardless of where we are physically located. This allows for flexibility and ease for each of us. We do not have to spend time asking each other for certain information or client details when all the info is already stored in a predetermined file location. Using file sharing can improve productivity of your staff as well, giving them freedom at work and motivating them to be even more successful.

I hope you have picked up a few useful tips out of this week’s lesson on sharing. To learn more about our hiring software products, please visit our resources page or contact us for more information.
