Data Export

A data export occurs when information collected within a software application is converted and provided in a separate format external to the original application. The export is often provided in a comma separated values (sometimes called character separated values) file (CSV) which may be opened and edited within a spreadsheet.

Data exports are common to the human resources profession as recruiters and HR representatives sometimes need to transfer HR data out of one application so that a file may be generated and imported into another in the case of a new hiring software implementation.

Also, an ad hoc reporting tool, such as Report Builder within ExactHire’s applicant tracking system, frequently features the ability to export data from an on-screen report into an external spreadsheet for further manipulation.
